Forming Analysis Services

Also known as "One-Step analyses", forming analyses is performed on sheetmetal parts and can do many things:

  • Develop a sheetmetal part blank for estimating material usage,
  • Generate colored 3D part plots showing material thinning and thickening (for identifying potential “hot spots” for tearing or wrinkling).
  • Develop nested layouts of sheetmetal parts on a coil strip for minimum material usage.  (Two variations of this analysis are available – one for transfer dies and one for progressive dies.)
  • Analyze the effects of certain manufacturing features in a forming process – features such as draw beads, pressure pads, and binder pressures.  Results can show how these process features can be used to eliminate tearing or wrinkling.

Forming analyses are typically performed on parts before tooling is designed. Indeed, forming analysis results can be used to more effectively design a die right the first time.
