Overview of
Incremental Analysis

Dynaform-PC is an analysis system that performs sheetmetal forming simulations on "soft tooling" (CAD data defining a set of die surfaces and part progressions). Intended to reduce die tryout time as well as the costs associated with tooling design and development, the software is also known as "computerized die tryout", "virtual die tryout", and "incremental simulation". In short, the software will predict what will happen to sheetmetal as it is formed by the multiple surfaces and stations of progressive, transfer, line, and deep draw dies – no matter the complexity – no matter the number of stations – no matter what.

Components of the System

The Dynaform-PC software package is made up of an integrated pre-processor for preparing input data, an analysis engine (solver), and a post-processor for reviewing results. Die models (soft tooling) can either be constructed in a user's CAD system or developed within Dynaform from part data using Dynaform's Die Face Engineering module. LS-Dyna, the system's analysis engine, is an implicit and explicit solver that is used throughout the aerospace and automobile industries and is considered in the industry as the "benchmark" system for analysis accuracy.

What it Does

  • Applications supported within the Dynaform Suite of products include:
  • Tool Surface Modeling,
  • Finite Element Mesh Generation,
  • Draw Bead Force Prediction,
  • Blank Development,
  • Binder Wrap Analysis,
  • Draw Die Simulation,
  • Trimming Operation Simulation,
  • Spring Back Simulation, and
  • Multiple Stage Tooling Simulation.
  • What It's All About

The purpose of Dynaform-PC is to analyze a die design and know that the die will work without the need to develop prototype tooling – before any steels are cut. In fact, because the only investment is setup time and computer run time, the system opens the door for the consideration and evaluation of multiple die design alternatives. Dramatic cost savings can be realized when it is determined a progressive die can be built with fewer stations.
